Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. (1 Kings 19, NIV, bold mine).
Stop. Reflect. Breathe.
Have you ever been in the midst of a trial or chaos in your life?
Life seems to be in fast forward and you just wish for a moment you could press PAUSE. Stop all of the responsibilities. Stop all of the expectations. Just stop…
Shouldn’t be difficult right? WRONG.
As a mom who has struggled with codependency her whole life, if I’m not doing something for someone, then I’m not living for a purpose. But a purpose of the flesh, and not of the spirit.
Chaos begins to be the norm. Distractions and disruptions from our Kingdom Purpose. The more the enemy is able to distract us with the less time we are able to spend at the feet of our Lord. We feel abandoned. Abandoned by the one who said He would never forsake us.
We keep praying. We keep screaming in frustration. We’re exhausted. We’re empty. When does the refilling process begin? How can you even attempt to pour into others when your vessel is empty?
Crazy thing is our God could send a lightning strike to get our attention. He could in a moment breathe and cause a mighty wind. Yes that would show His power, but He isn’t here for that. He’s here to show us He is close.
Problem is that we can’t hear His whispers because we are distracted by the worldly purpose for our lives, and the kingdom purpose is drowned out. We fear our life is ending, when God is offering a new beginning. God is whispering to us. He has the answers. His voice calms the storm. The storm of chaos that circles our lives that we have been BEGGING Him to rescue us from, could in a MOMENT be silenced. Yet we won’t be quiet and still long enough to Let God be God. “Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10 NLT)
What if you take a moment? Say 10 minutes. Invite God to Whisper. His Whisper can do ALL, and you can finally lean in and soak in His presence. Ceasing all distractions and beginning to bring the Kingdom closer daily.
